Safety first. Always.
At Outland, safety is built into every crew, every camp, every day.

Our Approach
Our approach to safety.
For a season to run smoothly, safety can’t be an afterthought. It has to be part of how you work from day one. At Outland, that mindset starts long before the first tree goes in the ground.
Every planter begins with orientation: online before the season, in camp when they arrive, and in the field where it matters most. Each camp is led by an experienced supervisor who believes in our Safety First approach.
It’s what we’ve always done. And it’s how our planters stay safe, happy, and healthy year after year.

Certified HSE program
Our health, safety, and environmental system meets all provincial and industry standards in every region where we operate.

Full-time safety professionals
Each camp is staffed with experienced supervisors who are supported by full-time safety professionals.

On-site safety orientation
First-year or returning, every planter starts the season with in-camp safety orientation led by trained staff.

Emergency preparedness
Emergency protocols and response plans are in place at every camp. All hazards are reported, controlled, and consistently reassessed.

Daily safety briefing
Every day begins with a check-in to assess conditions, review protocols, and make sure everyone is prepared. No day or job begins without it.

Pre-season conditioning program
Planters receive a comprehensive pre-season strength program designed to prepare them for the physical demands of the job and minimize injury risk.

Zero incident mentality
We require strict PPE compliance, and every planter is empowered to report hazards, stop unsafe acts, and keep crews accountable.

After-action reviews
Every incident is followed by an After-Action Review to capture lessons, identify gaps, and improve.

Training & drills
Crews practice emergency response through ongoing instruction and hands-on safety drills.

Wellbeing
Our commitment to health & wellness
Planting is demanding. Outland camps are built to support the physical, mental, and emotional health of the people doing the work. That includes:
- Fresh, nutritious (and delicious) food
- Dedicated health and safety professionals—always available and actively supporting site staff
- Continuous investment in our camp infrastructure
- A structured pre-season conditioning program
- Physical and mental wellness support resources
- Comprehensive physiotherapy resources and support
We believe health and safety extend beyond camp to planters’ homes, communities, and daily lives.
